| I'm sure there used to be a holiday thread but I can't see it. Me and my girlfriend are going to Sydney for the world club challenge. Can anyone recommend things not to miss while we're over there? I've heard the Blue Mountains are a good day out and obviously there's Bondi beach but I've heard little else. Thanks in advance

Take the ferry over to Manly, spend the day at the beach. Taronga Zoo, Walk along the coast from Bondi to Coogee,. Take plenty of cash, it's expensive down there.

| I prefer the inner west (I used to live there) but then I'm not a beach type person.
Get a ferry over to Balmain and go on a pub crawl, there's some decent pubs in Balmain and it's a great little suburb.
Other than that theres the usual touristy stuff like the opera house and the bridge etc. it's a great city to visit but yes take plenty cash cos you'll need it.

| Bondi really is a dump, Coogee is nicer if you like the beach. I really liked balmoral beach which isn't a coastal beach so you don't have to see middle aged men surfing in speedos

If you're heading down to Circular Quay, there's a very tall round building on the corner of George Street and Bond Street. At the very top of it, and not really advertised at street level, is a revolving bar with great views.
Other than that, if it's your thing, there are some spectacular second hand bookshops around Newtown and Glebe.
IMO Gould's Book Arcade on King St in Newtown is probably a pretty close facsimile of heaven itself.
Great city. The Inner West of Sydney is one of my all time favourite places.

The revolving restaurant / bar is called the Summit, I'm scared of heights but I was surprisingly fine up there. Took a mate of mine who visited me on his last night to show him the view, bloody revolving mechanism was being serviced so wasn't working!
Had a few nice meals and cocktails in there.
There's another good bar (not revolving) but had a great view at the top of the Shan gri la hotel

| Doyle's Fish & Chip restaurant is well worth a visit.
I really enjoyed the Aquarium (but I took young kids with me and they loved the penguins and the platypus).
The Opera House tour is really interesting. I'm an engineer and I really got into the details of the design and construction.
I could go on and on - it's one of my favourite cities!
