| Gareth O'Brien looks a player doesn't he? He was all class for Saints in his time with us and seems to be playing brilliantly at fullback for Salford. Was it perhaps a short sighted move from Warrington to not retain him? Possibly at the expense of the headless chicken that is Steffan Ratchford?
Also, what a start to the season Ben Currie has had! How long is his Wire contract? I think you are doing him a massive dis-service in not letting an NRL side take him now, he's world class and needs to be playing over there, not bullying semi-pro standard SL sides.

| GOB looked like a poor fullback to me, was hopeless in defence and repeatedly got smashed when bringing the ball back, putting his team on the back foot. I would take Stefan Ratchford over him any day of the week.
As for Ben Currie and world class? He is a good super league player at the moment but far from world class, I don't know if a single SL player is world class, give him a couple of years and see how he develops.

| I thought O'Brien was adequate for Salford last night, kind of like the run of the mill performances he put in for us.
I don't want to sound disrespectful to the lad as he's a good pro but not a player to take you up a level. I really hope he goes well for Salford.

I am a big fan of Gareth O'Brien, but it has to be said that he was not doing what needed to be done at half-back, which was giving the team some direction. He is probably better suited to fullback wher he can add the odd touch of class without having the responsibility of playmaker-in-chief. Wire have different prioriries from their fullback. Russel contributes in a totally different way but is invaluable in what he does. Jack Johnson is next up if you don't count Gidley as a fullback. You can't keep every player under the salary cap rules so, on balance, letting him go was the right thing.
I diagree completely with Ron, though. I thought he did well last night. If he 'got smashed' all the more credit to him for coming back for more. His insinct to put his foot behind the line just as Lineham was bearing down on a ball that looked ready to stop in the box was real class under pressnure. Add to that he kicked well ( including a 40 20 ).

| GOB was Salford's best player yesterday, if you thought he had a poor game...what were you watching?

| I would have preferred to have kept O'Brien than Wheeler, but it seems to have been mutually agreed with Smith that O'Brien would develop better at another club with regular game time.

I suppose Saints are doing a dis-serve to Roby and Walmsley by not letting them go to the NRL too. If you were to let them go now then at least it would give plenty of time for Saints to prepare for the 'million pound game'.

| I agree with Asgardian here.
At 60 mins I was thnking we've been stuffed by an ex-Wire player here.
Good performance from the lad but would have been behind Sandow, Gids and Ratch in the halves for us, so it was mutually beneficial for him to go to Salford.

| Wouldn't get too worked up about Sad ones post. At the moment any half back would look class compared to their pair....
But Currie is class and if he carries on at the present rate of improvement he could be a stand out international in the future.

Very, very poor attempt at trolling.
Keep GOB when we've brought in Gids and Sandow? I like the guy but he's exactly where he belongs at a side like Salford and I wish him all the best there, but he had no future here other than a regular spot in the reserves team.

| It may be worth noting that we have 1st option of GOB in two years when his current contract with Salford expires. Personally I think by then he would be a suitable replacement for Gidley when he retires.
Currie very much reminds me of Sculthorpe when he broke through at the wire.
