Four tries from Bradford Bulls maestro Jarrod Sammut helped Bradford to victory as they brushed aside a much-changed Huddersfield Giants side 58-6 at the Provident Stadium.
Sammut put in a man of the match performance as he scored two tries each side of half time and created the majority of Bradford’s attacking chances.
Keith Lulia also scored a farewell hat-trick as he made his last appearance for the Bulls before heading to the NRL to play for the Wests Tigers.
After securing the league leader’s shield last weekend Paul Anderson rested the bulk of his first team squad and handed debuts Super League to four youngsters ahead of the Giants’ crunch play-off tie against the Wigan Warriors on Thursday.
Just four players who were part of last week’s side that beat Wakefield took part in tonight’s game and it showed as Bradford raced into a big half time lead.
Jamie Foster scored 22 points on the night with nine conversions and a try of his own in the first half, and Danny Addy also scored to give the Bulls a 28-0 lead before the break.
Sammut and Lulia’s scores were followed by a consolation try for the Giants scored by Jake Connor and Elliott Kear scored a try of his own to give Bradford their first half century of points of the season.
Sammut opened the scoring with a superb 95 metre try. Wood chipped the ball towards the post on Huddersfield’s last tackle and it was collected by Sammut who found space through the middle and the half back had the pace to beat three defenders to score.
Lulia scored the first of his two tries after the Bulls took advantage of a high tackle on Sammut. From the resulting possession the half back found space across the line to play Lulia in for the easy score.
The NRL-bound centre scored moments later after crashing through three would-be defenders to score next to the posts.
Youngster Addy scored his team’s fourth try of the night after breaking through the line and moments later Foster bagged his fifth try of the season after being played in by Sammut to score in the corner. Foster missed his first kick of the night but Bradford took a 28-0 lead into half time.
The result was beyond doubt before the start of the second half but Sammut scored his second try after taking advantage of a knock-on by Huddersfield. The half-back ran in support of Foster who was in space on the wing and Foster played the ball inside for Sammut who scored under the posts.
Connor scored a consolation try for the Giants just before the 50 minute mark. The fullback brushed off a poor tackle attempt from Sammut and accelerated over the line.
Sammut scored his hat-trick try with ease as he danced through Huddersfield’s line from Gale’s pass. Huddersfield were made to a rue a knock-on which gave the Bulls possession deep in their half and Sammut scored his third of the night to take his season tally up to 21.
As the second half wore on the Bulls continued to take advantage of some poor defending from the young Giants side. Gale looped a pass out to Foster on the wing and he kicked the ball along the ground for Sammut to chase and plant the ball over the line.
Kear added Bradford’s ninth try of the night to take the Bulls to 50 points for the first time this season and Foster added the extras with his eighth successful kick of the night to give the Bulls a 52-6 lead.
Lulia scored his hat-trick after fending off two defenders to score in the corner just before the final hooter brought an end to Bradford’s season.
Huddersfield Giants will look a different side as their first team will return for their play-off fixture against the Wigan Warriors at the John Smith’s Stadium on Thursday night.
